teaching experience.

Since 1991,Danicia Ambron has been on the Ashtanga
path and along the way has been in presence, guidance, and
even the employment of many great Yogis including Beryl Bender,
David Life, David Swenson, Lucy Martorella, Doug Swenson,
Rodney Yee, Eddie Stern, Manju Jois, and of course Sri K.
Pattabhi Jois. Danicia became so passionate about this practice
that she opened The Prana Studio in 1998 to create a place
in which the eight-limb system of Ashtanga could be taught
in an approachable atmosphere, and yet remain true to tradition.
As a former All-American athlete, Danicia's teaching comes
from a place of superior respect for the human form and all
its capacities and limitations. Over the past 10 years, Danicia
has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to teach several
Olympic Athletes, Tony award winning performers and choreographers,
and Hollywood elite. In addition to being director of Prana
Studio, Danicia also is the head Yoga trainer for the Columbia
University Swim team. She has never been injured from Yoga
practice and uses her extensive anatomy experience, pre-medical
background, and massage therapy degree to ensure that students
of all levels can learn and develop a rich Ashtanga practice
free from pain and is strongly opposed to the idea that injury
is an Ashtanga inevitablilty. Danicia is also the mama
to 2 amazing children, born in 2001 and 2002! She was able
to teach and practice through both pregnancies and is currently
working on her comprehensive manual for the pregnant Ashtangi.
She currently teaches both Primary and Second series classes
at Prana. She is an outspoken Yogi and encourages students
to be individuals, be mindful, and be morally conscious on
and off the Yoga mat. Peace.
OUR STAFF
Mary-Ann Mastreani began her journey on the yoga path
in San Francisco nearly 10 years ago. Her initial exploration
was in the Ashtanga tradition under the guidance of Tim Miller.
She has since studied intensively with Dena Kingsberg and
Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. In 1999 Mary-Ann completed Tim Miller's
advanced teacher training course. Mary-Ann's teaching is also
influenced by the Iyengar tradition's senior teachers, Lisa
Walford and Alison West. She participated in a two week intensive
course with Lisa in 1999 and completed Alison's 200 hour Yoga
Union teacher training course in 2001. In addition, she has
participated in anatomy workshops with Norman and Laura Allard,
Sanskrit training with Vyaas Houston, yoga for pregnancy training
and yoga for scoliosis with Jean Marie Derrick and Bobbie
Fulz, kirtan workshops with Krishna Das and meditation classes
in the Vipassana tradition. Mary-Ann also holds a masters
degree in counseling psychology. Her unique approach blends
her skills and experiences gained in all her training. Mary-Ann
believes that yoga practice is far more than performing asanas,
and encourages students to use their yoga practice as a tool
for discovering more about their physical and psychological
patterns, so as to initiate change in their lives. More recently
Mary-Ann's most influential 'teacher' has been her 16 month
old son, Caleb. He has reminded her of the beauty of a beginner's
mind, the humility of knowing nothing at all, the absolute
freedom that is found by living solely in the moment, and
the total joy that can be experienced by giving love unconditionally
to another.
Jenny (Haines) Perez is a native New Yorker. She began
practicing yoga regularly at Jivamukti in 1996. Jenny spent
the summer break from the year-long teacher training program
at Jivamukti in 1999 in Mysore practicing with Sri K. Pattabhi
Jois and Sharath Rangaswamy, and continued a daily ashtanga
practice from that time through the present. She is heading
back to Mysore for the third time shortly. Jenny has been
studying kinesthetic anatomy with Irene Dowd consistently
since 1999 as well. In 2003 Jenny completed Richard Freeman's
teacher training and advanced teacher training in Boulder,
Colorado. Other ashtanga teachers such as Chuck Miller and
Graeme Northfield, as well as teachers outside of ashtanga
have contributed valuable tools and inspiration at different
times.
